I spent the first week of January in Loma de la Joya, DR with two local birders, Angelo and Eudes Paulino. We were lucky enough to hike the largest scientific preserve in the area, Loma Quita Espuela. We set up 12 survey points within and around the preserve, which is surrounded by organic cacao farms and pastures. What a hike! It took us 3 hours up steep terrain just to get to the forest, but it was well worth it. At 600 meters above sea level, we met a friendly park ranger that helped us locate all the pristine forests in the area.
